How to Use Linux Video Tutorials Online in Linux to Get Linux Training

Article Summary:  Linux videos show you step-by-step how to use Linux. Get the Linux training you need - Read free articles - watch free sample Linux videos!

Linux video tutorials are an excellent, fast and easy way to learn how to use Linux.

First, you need to get Linux and start the Linux OS (operating system) on your computer system. This will give you access to the Linux desktop, where you can: run Linux software programs and open a terminal emulation window.

Linux Training Tips:  To get Linux running on a system, you can:

  • boot your system with a Linux live cd (very fast and easy),

  • use a free Linux player program to run Linux in Windows (also fast and relatively easy),

  • install Linux on a Windows system (more complicated and time consuming) or

  • install Linux on a new system (a good way to go!).
  •

Once you are "at" the Linux desktop, open a terminal emulation window so you can go to the Linux command line prompt, where you will run Linux commands.

Linux Training Tips:  To open a Linux terminal (terminal emulation window) from the Linux desktop, to run Linux commands:

  • click on the "Terminal" icon (computer screen on the desktop, if there is one) or

  • right-click on the desktop and select "Linux Terminal" or "Linux Console" (or similar) or

  • search the menus on the desktop and select "Linux Console" or "Linux Terminal" (or similar).
  •

To watch a Linux video, just run your Linux browser and log in and you will see the list of Linux video tutorials.

Just click on the name of the video tutorial, such as: "How to Run Linux in Windows to Learn Linux", or "Using a Linux Live CD / DVD", or "How to Use Linux Commands - The ls Command" - and the video tutorial runs in the browser (in Windows).

So, at this point, you have a terminal emulation window open so you can run Linux commands and a Linux video playing in your browser.

Not only do you get to see the Linux videos and hear how to use Linux, but you also get to work with the videos as they are playing, and use a Linux desktop to run Linux software programs - you can watch and try Linux commands yourself!

Just start a Linux video, such as "How to Use the ls Command" and watch part of how to run the command. Then click on the pause button.

You hold down the Alt key and press Tab to go to the Linux terminal emulation window (so you can get to the Linux command line prompt to run Linux commands).

Now try the Linux command that you've have just seen!

Then hold down Alt and press the Tab key once more and go to the Linux video window. Watch a bit more of the Linux video and learn some more options of the command.

Then press Alt+Tab again to go to the Linux command line prompt in the Linux terminal (a.k.a. Linux console) and try the new Linux command options. And so on.
